Highlights of GSLIS Works

This section will showcase some of the works I have done throughout the GSLIS program at the University of Rhode Island. For the works that will be showcased, they are Information Website that I created in LSC 508 and works related to a PFE (Practical Field Experience) I done this past summer at Rhode Island College. I felt that these works would be perfect examples of the hard work I have done in the program.

The image below illustrate my final website created during LSC 508. This course was special to me, as it was one of three courses that I took in the beginning of the GSLIS program. This course was taken in my first semester in the program, and it introduced me to the concept of being an Information Scientist. An information scientist falls in line with the art of librarianship, as the role of evaluating, organizing, cataloguing, classifying, managing and distributing information in various formats are necessary when becoming a librarian. Understanding the value of information is where the course has taught me about being an information scientist and throughout the program, I have kept that is mind. As libraries have become more than organizations that provides their users with information, they provide users with various technologies and up-to-date trends to provide for the community. In the course of LSC 508, there were many memorable labs that were fun to do. One that stood out was creating the infographics, as this was my first introduction in using Canvas to create a poster. I still used Canvas because of this course, and this lab was one my favorites. Below is a screenshot of the Google Site that contained all of the work throughout the course, and this was precursor in creating a website in this course.

LSC 595 PFE: Rhode Island College

Last summer, I did my PFE at Rhode Island College and I just wanted to share some highlights of the work I done throughout the summer. Interning at RIC was an enjoyable experience in working in the back-end of the library. I was able to work in their Digital Initiatives department, where I was focused on digitizing photographs and correspondences from the mid-1900s. I was always interested in the digital side of librarianship, and interning at the library provided myself with experience on creating metadata and the digitization process. Below is the LibGuide of the work I have done throughout the PFE. While I have created other LibGuides in different courses throughout the GSLIS program, I can see that this LibGuide for RIC can be considered my first official LibGuide in the library world.

Below is one of many photographs that I was able to digitized, and this one in particular is focused on the Spanish Waltz.

In the screenshot below, it provides a glimpse of all of the photographs I was able to digitize during my PFE. As this was a screenshot on ArtStor, all of the photographs free to view through the Public Collections page on the website.
