My Homepage About Me GSLIS Highlights Lab Work Reflection & Future Plans

Treemap of Boston Public Library's Website

Treemap of BPL Website.

Treemapping was very time consuming. Many of the links on Boston Public Library's website led to other sites entirely. Each page was so different, sometimes the secondary level item would be a list to the left of the screen, or a new task bar would appear for a page. The real trouble started when I couldn't find the treemap option in excel charts. I have excel 2010 and it seems like treemapping wasn't added yet. I then copied my data into a Google Sheet but the formatting wasn't right. I ended up e-mailing myself my data and opening it on a friend's computer who had a more updated verson of excel. I then completed the treemap on their computer and e-mailed myself the screenshots of my map. I had so much data I tried treemapping with just level two and three, but I prefer the look of the treemap that includes level one.

Lab 5 Reflection

I learned some limits to my version of excel. I had never heard of treemapping before this lab. It is good to know that in the future if I need to create a treemap or other types of charts that I don't get with excel 2010, I can use google. I will check first if excel has the chart before entering in all of my data per excel instructions.
